Craven County Community Health Center Celebrates Expansion and Addition of Pharmacy in Havelock
On Monday, September 21st, Craven County officials, healthcare staff, and community partners gathered for a ribbon‑cutting ceremony marking the completed expansion of the Craven County Community Health Center in Havelock, including the opening of a new in‑house pharmacy. The event included remarks from Craven County Chairman Denny Bucher and Craven County Health Director Scott Harrelson.
Craven County operates two Community Health Centers, one in New Bern and one in Havelock, providing comprehensive primary and preventive care services to residents of all ages, regardless of ability to pay. Recognizing the need for expanded services in the eastern part of the county, the Board of Commissioners and the Board of Health invested in a 2,000‑square‑foot addition to the Havelock facility.
This expansion includes additional exam rooms, an enlarged laboratory, and a fully integrated pharmacy offering low‑cost prescriptions to Health Department patients. It also establishes dedicated space for a Veterans Affairs Behavioral Health Clinic, enhancing support for the region’s large veteran population.
The project represents an investment of approximately $750,000, with $589,000 funded through a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Craven County extends its thanks to Waters Contracting and Oakley Collier Architects for their work in delivering the expansion.
